Are sliding doors right for your opening?

Sliding doors keep the most glass in view. Here is how they compare with the other doors we fit.

  • Sliding doors

Fewer, larger panes and slim frames, so you see more glass when closed. Nothing swings into the room.

  • Bifold doors

Fold right back and open the whole width. Best when you want the garden fully open in summer. Bifold doors

  • French doors

A pair of glazed doors that open wide. Often a better fit for a narrower opening. French doors

What people worry about, answered plainly

  • “A bifold's frames would get in the way of the view.”

That is the main reason people choose sliding. Big panes and a slim meeting point keep the garden in view whether the doors are open or closed.

  • “My old patio doors stick, rattle or let the cold in.”

We survey the opening, take exact sizes and fit new frames and panels. Our installers then set the rollers and check the doors slide and lock as they should.

  • “Is a slimline system worth it for my opening?”

It makes most sense on a wide opening with a view you want to keep. On a smaller opening a standard aluminium patio door often does the job just as well, and we will say so.

  • “I want the same people to measure and fit the doors.”

We measure, order and fit, so there is one number to ring if anything needs adjusting. The installation carries our 10-year guarantee.

Rough sizes and a photo of the opening are enough.

We aim to reply the same working day.

Aluminium sliding patio doors: the choices that matter

Tell us about the opening and how you use it, and we narrow these down with you at the survey.

  1. 1. How many panes

Two-pane doors suit most patio openings. Wider openings can take three or more.

  2. 2. Which panes slide

One sliding pane and one fixed, or several sliding panes that stack behind each other.

  3. 3. Slimline or standard

Slimline sliding doors keep the meeting point between the panes as narrow as possible, which is where you notice the frame most.

  4. 4. The threshold

A low threshold gives a near-level step out to the patio.

Glass and locks are chosen for the size of the panes, the aspect and how exposed the opening is.

  • Patio doors

    Smart Visoglide Plus

Smart's sliding patio door system: a dependable choice for standard patio openings, in a range of pane layouts.

  • Powder-coated finish

    White, black or grey

    • White
    • Black
    • Grey

Any other colour to order, adding 6 to 8 weeks. New windows too? Ordering together keeps every frame the same finish.

    10-year installation guarantee

Aluminium sliding doors give you wide panes of glass in slim frames, so the garden stays in view whether the doors are open or closed. We supply and fit them across London and the M25 from our base in Hayes, and in nearby towns such as Watford, Reading, Slough and Guildford. Sliding doors usually take 2 to 3 weeks from order, depending on our availability, and every installation has our 10-year installation guarantee.

Aluminium sliding patio doors for London homes

Most of our aluminium sliding patio doors go into kitchen extensions, living rooms and garden rooms, replacing old patio doors or filling a new opening. Aluminium is strong enough to carry large glass panes in narrow frames, so you get more view and less frame than with uPVC or timber. The finish is powder coated and only needs a wipe to keep clean.

If you are searching for sliding doors London companies can supply and fit, the questions worth asking are the same everywhere: which system, who measures, who fits and who answers if something needs adjusting. With us it is one team for all of it.

Slimline sliding doors

Slimline sliding doors, slimline sliding patio doors and slimline aluminium sliding doors all describe the same idea: as little frame as possible between the panes. The meeting point between the sliding panels is where you notice it most. A slimline system costs more than a standard patio door, so it makes most sense on wide openings with a view you want to keep. On a smaller opening, a standard aluminium patio door often does the job just as well, and we will say so.

Sliding or bifold?

Sliding doors suit people who live with the doors closed for much of the year and want the view. Bifold doors suit people who want the whole wall open in summer. We fit both, so we have no reason to push you one way. See our aluminium bifold doors page to compare.

What affects the price

We do not publish prices, because no two openings are the same. The price of aluminium sliding doors is driven by the width and height of the opening, the number of panes, the system, the colour, the glass and the hardware, and whether the opening needs any work first. Send your sizes and we will quote for your doors.

Aluminium sliding doors near me

We cover all of London, the M25 and towns just outside it. Send us your sizes through the quote form or on WhatsApp and we aim to reply the same working day, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Many sliding door jobs come with new aluminium windows or an aluminium roof lantern over the extension, and we can quote for those together.

Sliding door questions, answered

Not sure about something else? Send what you have and ask in the notes. We answer it with your quote.

Do you fit aluminium sliding doors in London?

We supply and fit aluminium sliding doors across London, inside the M25 and in nearby towns such as Watford, Reading, Slough and Guildford, working from our base in Hayes. Our team surveys the opening, fits the doors and guarantees the installation for 10 years.

How much do aluminium sliding doors cost?

The price depends on the size of the opening, the number of panes, the system, the colour, the glass and the hardware, and whether the opening needs work before the doors go in. We do not publish prices because each opening is different. Send us your sizes and we will quote for your actual doors.

How long do sliding doors take from order?

Sliding doors usually take 2 to 3 weeks from order, depending on our availability. A special powder-coat colour adds 6 to 8 weeks. We do a final site survey before ordering, then confirm your lead time when the order is placed.

What is the difference between AluSpace and Visoglide Plus?

Both are Smart sliding door systems. AluSpace is the slimline option, built for big panes of glass with narrow frames where the view matters most. Visoglide Plus is Smart's patio door system and a dependable, cost effective choice for everyday openings. At the survey we will tell you which suits your opening.

Are slimline sliding doors worth it?

Slimline sliding doors cost more than a standard patio door, but you see more glass and less frame, which is the reason most people choose sliding over bifold. They make most sense on wide openings with a view you want to keep. On a smaller opening, a standard sliding patio door often does the job just as well.

Should I choose sliding doors or bifold doors?

Sliding doors keep more glass in view when closed and do not need space for panels to fold back, but part of the opening always stays covered. Bifold doors open the full width. If you live with the doors closed most of the year, sliding often suits better; if you want the garden fully open in summer, look at bifolds.

Do you supply Cortizo sliding doors?

We supply Cortizo sliding profiles as well as Smart systems, so we are not limited to one maker. Smart is our usual recommendation as a British aluminium systems company, but we will suggest Cortizo where it suits the opening better.

What are your payment terms?

We take a 50% deposit when the order is placed and the balance before delivery, by bank transfer or card. Sliding doors are made to measure, so they cannot be returned, but anything that arrives damaged is replaced.
