1. Number of panels
This follows from the width of your opening. More panels mean narrower doors that fold into a tidier stack. Fewer panels mean more glass and fewer frames.

2. Which way they fold
Doors fold inwards or outwards and stack to the left, the right or both sides. Pick a side to see how the panels stack.

3. A traffic door
A single panel that opens like a normal door, so you can nip out to the garden without folding the whole set.

4. The threshold
A low threshold gives a near-level step between floor and patio. A weathered threshold gives more protection in an exposed spot.

How long do bifold doors last?
Aluminium bifold doors last well when they are fitted properly. Aluminium does not rot, swell or warp the way timber can, and a powder-coated finish only needs a wipe with warm soapy water. Supply only is available on request if you already have an installer. Supply and fit is what we recommend, because one company then answers for the measuring, the doors and the fitting. If you choose supply only and give us your final sizes, we ask you to sign them off before we order.
Do I need to measure the opening myself?
Your rough measurements are enough for a first quote. If you are not confident measuring, we send someone out to estimate. Either way, we take the exact sizes ourselves at the final site survey before anything is ordered.
Are bifold doors or sliding doors better for my house?
